Honolulu, Feb. 10, 2014 – One hundred parents and concerned citizens filled the fellowship hall at Kalihi Union Church to hear educator and family advocate Phil Lees share the effects of same sex marriage on education and how people of faith can respond and positively engage.
Parents expressed great concern that affirmation of alternative sexual lifestyles education is creeping into primary grades as supplementary curriculum; into music classes in songs about going to Gay Pride Parade, into drama class where students will participate in LGBT theme skits, and much more.
Phil shared this is all part of an international plan outlined at an LGBT Virginia Conference based on strategies from the book After the Ball. Attendees learned that it is not enough to merely share their needs and values individually; to be effective, we must work cooperatively as a community.
PEACE (Public Education Advocates for Christian Equity) is an inter-national movement dedicated to
- inform families of the reality of curriculum that is in opposition to the instruction from the church
- provide tools for parents to take steps to reduce the exposure of their child(ren) to instruction that is counter to their values
- positively engage in the public education system,
PEACE Hawaii is organizing as an independent not-for-profit in the State of Hawaii, with a local board of directors and advisors who understand the needs of people in the Aloha state.
Allen Cardines, Interim President of PEACE Hawaii, stated, “Our efforts cannot begin and end with Pono Choices. The opposition has been implementing a plan for more than 50 years, we must develop a long term plan and be committed to long term implementation.”
